Proyecto Espaço Protegido

Since: 2005

Region: Rio de Janeiro

Objective: The overall objective is to create a cultural centre for the young child (Centro Cultural da Criança -) in the community Complexo do Morro dos Macacos, Rio de Janeiro, as a safe place where children aged 2 to 10 have full access to learning and developmental activities in accordance to the International Convention for Children’s Rights and the national laws and regulations.

The project will create a cultural centre committed to the promotion of children’s rights in a slum community of Rio de Janeiro. The centre will provide full-time day care services for approximately 500 children and part-time informal services for about 3,000 children aged 2 to 10. Young children will be treated as citizens in their own rights and active participants (protagonists) in their own process of development and will decide on how to make the best use of their free time (after school).

Trocando em Miúdos - Investindo no Futuro

Since: 2004

Region: Rio de Janeiro

Objective: The project aims to improve the quality of ECD services for children aged 3 months to 6 years, through the training of staff, the involvement of family members, and the documentation and dissemination of the methodology to municipal and community institutions.

CECIP is a non-governmental organisation created in 1986 to contribute to building a more just and democratic society through education and communication. To fulfil this mission, CECIP produces educational videos and publications, runs campaigns, and mobilises social agents. It focuses on education, health, the environment and the rights of children and youngsters. The Trocando em Miúdos - Investindo no Futuro project (Making it simple - investing in the future) will test the organisation’s capacity to create links between communities, NGOs, and municipal authorities. This will allow CECIP to improve the quality of service provision to young children, while training and providing technical assistance to the ECD staff of these public and community organisations.
