SamenRekenen

Objective: To stimulate and support cognitive development focused on language and mathematical insights of - particularly though not exclusively - young immigrant children within a context of the Samenspel methodology which brings children, playgroup leaders, teachers and parents together.

‘SamenRekenen’ which is anchored in the Foundation supported Samenspel programme concentrates on the development of a methodology focusing on playful maths activities linked to relevant language concepts for young children; instruments for observations and evaluation for playgroup leaders and trainers; a manual for practitioners (parents and playgroup leaders); a training scheme for playgroup leaders and trainers; and an extension of the project to the first years of primary school. Promotion and advocacy will be geared towards the recognition of ‘SamenRekenen’ as an enrichment of the Samenspel programme, other pre-school settings and the first years of primary school. The project is jointly funded by BvLF, VSB Fonds Utrecht and Fonds 1818 Den Haag.
The complementary research project ‘SamenRekenen Onderzocht’ by the Freudenthal Instituut investigates in a systematic way the effects of the ‘SamenRekenen’ approach on the development and learning of young children.
