Los Derechos Humanos de la Infancia en el Estado de Oaxaca

Since: 2005

Region: State of Oaxaca

Objective: To create an institutional, legal and social framework in the State of Oaxaca that is favourable to children and guarantees that children can exercise their rights as established in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

a) The adoption of the new law by the State Congress;
b) A clear political agenda to which policy makers and state agencies can be kept;
c) An ongoing, good quality radio programme that disseminates information and can be used in campaigns; and
d) A substantial improvement of the quality of the programmes of each individual agencies and of FONI as state-wide network of organisations.

For the Foundation and the LA-Desk programme, the important outcomes are:
a) Good insight in the situation of (indigenous) children in the State of Oaxaca; this is relevant for the other projects that work with children of indigenous origin in Mexico, but also Guatemala;
b) A focused and well oriented intervention programme that includes three important aspects. First, how to influence policies based on the CRC; second, insight in how to organise a broad campaign that should influence the broader society besides only the policy-makers; third, an association of agencies that – as counterparts – contributes also to profile the Foundation’s agenda, related to the CRC issue;
c) A well designed monitoring and evaluation effort that can be used also in other contexts and projects; and
d) An interesting basis to build up information and arrive at publications relevant for different audiences.
