Education for All report on early childhood
UNESCO's Education for All Global Monitoring Report 2007 is published on October 26 on the theme of early childhood. The Bernard van Leer Foundation was delighted to have had the opportunity to provide input into this latest GMR. We believe the report will make 2007 the year of early childhood in EFA, and consider that it sheds important light on our activities to raise early childhood issues on the international agenda. Young children, HIV/AIDS and gender
Attitudes towards gender that are inculcated in early childhood can play a significant role in creating adult behaviours that lead to the spread of HIV/AIDS. This new working paper, Young children, HIV/AIDS and gender: A summary review (available to order or download - pdf, 1.2mb), explores how to use the early years to lay the foundations for HIV/AIDS prevention.

This 52-page edition of our biannual journal features interviews and articles covering such issues as corporal punishment, child abuse and violence in schools. Young children from indigenous communities
August 9 is the UN's International Day of the World's Indigenous People. The Bernard van Leer Foundation has been working for many years with local partner organisations in Latin America, Africa and Asia on the unique challenges faced by young indigenous children - notably in accessing and adapting to a school environment, without losing their cultural identity. The Coalition on Children Affected by AIDS (CCABA) has launched its website, www.ccaba.org. With funding from BvLF and other organisations, CCABA is working to put children high on the agenda of the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto in August 2006.
