This paper describes the experiences and lessons learned among five organisations in El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua that use support, care and education programmes to carry out work among children, families, and communities. These projects were prompted by the insufficiency of existing services to respond to disadvantaged children's social, emotional, physical and educational needs. As the Bernard van Leer Foundation withdraws from future funding in Central America, this publication captures the knowledge and experience these five organisations have jointly acquired through many years of co-operation.
