The transition to primary school is one of the greatestchallenges of early childhood. Handled well, it canset children into a virtuous cycle of learning. But howcan transitions be made more effective? Based ona background paper for UNESCO?s Education for AllGlobal Monitoring Report 2007, this paper assesses theliterature and draws lessons about ways of forginglinks between primary schools, children?s homeenvironments and early childhood programmes.
